Pharmaceuticals are essential to the delivery of health care in any given population or
country. Drugs (including vaccines) cut across all major areas of health care delivery.
The absence or inadequate supply of drugs has always led to a loss of confidence in
the health care system. Drugs are useful in promoting health, preventing and
managing diseases but can be harmful when used inappropriately.
